Patients who meet the case definition of simple febrile seizure are not at higher risk for serious bacterial illness than clinically similar febrile children who have not experienced a convulsion. Children who have had complex febrile seizures must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and treated with diagnostic and therapeutic measures based on the differential diagnosis. Round-the-clock prophylactic administration of antipyretics has not been demonstrated to affect recurrence of simple febrile seizure. Parents should be informed that recurrence is common, and that these convulsions are benign with an excellent prognosis. Care-givers should be informed that the risk of developing epilepsy after a simple febrile seizure is low, but that complex febrile seizures carry a significantly higher risk.

Copyright © 2011. In my practice I invite families to see me back within days or weeks to review the diagnosis, tests and safety measures. - Dr Rotenberg www.txmss.comDr joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05212400752434603954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2131132745341911506.post-8065273785805624482010-05-17T20:25:02.604-07:002010-05-17T20:25:02.604-07:00Just found this blog when googling for the phone n...Just found this blog when googling for the phone number for one of my son's doctors. He sees three of the specialists in your group ... not proud that he needs so many specialists but interested that y'all are in touch with each other. If you're taking requests, I'd love to see news and research about micropreemies. :)Courtneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04413100695399184954noreply@blogger.com
